Our comprehensive exams are vital in determining the appropriate treatment plan for you. Each exam consists of a complete set of digital full mouth x-rays, a periodontal check, and oral cancer screenings. Dr. Demewoz will discuss your exam in detail with you, so you can form clear dental goals which we will help you achieve.
Oral Cancer Screenings
You may not think you’re at risk for oral cancer if you don’t use alcohol or tobacco. While these products increase the risk of oral cancer, even those who don’t drink or smoke can still develop the disease. Getting screened for oral cancer is critical, as early detection can be lifesaving. We use visual and manual screening methods to search for abnormal tissue, as well as Velscope Enhanced Oral Assessment System, which employs natural tissue fluorescence to detect abnormalities not present to the naked eye.
Sometimes, it’s about what’s happening below the surface. Our full-mouth x-rays allow us to see exactly what the roots of your teeth and bones of your jaw look like. Our x-rays are digital and panoramic, delivering high-resolution images to aid in diagnosis. We also use Diagnodent technology to accurately find decay and provide early intervention.
In order to keep your mouth healthy, you have to develop daily hygiene habits. We also recommend routine professional cleanings, with Cavitron magnetoscritive scalers, which deep clean your teeth and keep them bright and sparkly.
Healthy gums play a big role in a happy mouth. Gum disease is the leading cause of adult tooth loss, so getting a periodontal check-up is important. If you notice bleeding gums, swollen gums, or receding gums, you may have early periodontitis. We use Arestin, an antibiotic treatment, in combination with scaling and root planing to combat gum disease.
Fluoride restores essential minerals to your tooth enamel, reducing sensitivity and making your teeth less susceptible to decay. For children, fluoride is an important element for tooth development, which is why we offer fluoride to kids at every visit. Adults are treated with fluoride as needed.
Protecting your pearly whites doesn’t have to be an investment. Whether your children are active athletes, or you find yourself victim to nighttime grinding (bruxism), we offer custom-fitted mouthguards that prevent damage and excess wear during sleep or activity.
Your comfort is important to us, no matter what treatment you receive. We want you to feel relaxed and calm throughout your visit which is why we offer nitrous oxide for those nervous about going to the dentist. Nitrous oxide is an inhaled gas that is easily controlled, and once the gas is turned off, the effects dissipate quickly. For longer procedures or certain circumstances, we can prescribe oral sedation as well.
Emergencies happen. When they do, we’re ready. We strive to be accommodating and get you into the office as soon as possible. We want you to be pain-free, happy, and smiling, so you can get back to your regular routine in no time.

State-of-the-art technology is what makes our dentistry different. We use intraoral cameras during our exams, because we believe if you’re able to see what the dentist sees, then you can make better decisions about your care. Additionally, our soft tissue lasers are essential in cold sore and lesion treatment, as well as frenectomies, as they reduce healing time and are less invasive than traditional methods.
